Corn – Kamikaze Field Guards

Lord of the fields

He’s all ears
For when the invaders arrive
His kinsmen guard with pride
Without fears
Of invading species of every bird
Known to his kernels
Of the wandering Human hand
And his luminous tractors

Chaaarge! He bellows
An iridescent fellow
Fires his device
The mice in hiding disperse
Escaping toxic fumes

The corn people return
The pesticide greeting
A field-wide explosion
Erupts from each maize seedling

So popped the kernels in glee
True kamikaze fashion
Under the command of Corn Quixote
Who retrieves acres of heaven
From the humans, who now flee
The rapturous grains
