Spinach – Wise Leafy Vegetable

The wise spinach

It was I, yes I
Who enriched Popeye
With the iron and calcium
Which once filled my xylem

I’m now spent
Entrenched
But don’t turn away
or hold me at bay

My roots may be exposed
My stems tough from age
A spinach that’s matured
Has the wisdom of a sage

Ask me about
when the sky was brighter
When every green was a fighter
A time long gone before Twitter
When soil was not addled with niter
the world was infinitely better
