Shankar Kandasamy and Sandhya Manoj Receive Aekalavya samman
Congratulations famed Bharatanatyam dancer, Shankar Kandasamy from Malaysia and Odissi dancer Sandhya Manoj of India for being awarded Lasyakala Dance Vision’s Aekalavya samman which honours eminent internationally recognised dancers.
The seasoned dancers were handed the awards by the High commissioner of India in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia T. S. Tirumurti at Odiya based Lasyakala’s season nine annual Aekalavya festival held at the Shantanand Auditorium, Temple of Fine Arts in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur this year.
The festival organised jointly with Netajee Subash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur saw performances by a group of dancers from India including seven from Lasyakala led by its founder, internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Saswat Joshi.
The performers from Lasyakala were Ananya Mihir, Akankshya kumari, Asima Priyadarshini, Jagruti Rath, Bibhudutta Das, Subhadra Susmita. Also appearing at the festival were Odissi guru Dr. Ileana Citaristi, famous dance critic Tapati Chowudhurie, Aekalavya awardee Kathak dancer Manisha Gulyani, actress and Bharat Natyam dancer Jhilik Bhattacharjee.
