Nurturing Young Artists
Every child is an artist – the urge to create or interpret the interesting aspects of our surroundings is a natural human instinct.
Why are there then so few artists in society.
Modern society is aimed at stifling the artistic instinct of children with its industry driven education system and profit oriented economy.
To feed its engine of growth (profiteering) the corporate sector manipulates politicians, academics and parents as well, to mould children into components of an efficient work force.
Thus the obsession to turn children into high income earning doctors, engineers, lawyers etc.
Hardly any parent would desire for their children to nurture their inherent creative urge to develop into artists.
Hopefully the current Covid19 pandemic has taught some parents that industrial positions are dispensable.
And it is a creative mind that has the capacity to create alternative means of self-sufficiency, to survive a major crisis.
They just have to see the innovative new businesses from online trading to Internet applications that are changing the course of today’s economy.
Creativity is the true strength of a human being and parents should not fall into the trap of the corporate world which is desperate to turn our children into robots of technology.
Allow your children to fully develop their creative talents and become happy and caring citizens of the world.
Photo caption: I saw this little girl at a vegetarian food stall run by her parents in Kajang, Selangor. She had an unopened pack of plasticine clay. I encouraged her to open the pack and model something. With a bit of guidance she made cute little models of apple and pineapple. And she was so proud and satisfied at her handiwork. See the glow on her face.
