Pumpkin – The Gourdfather
The Gourdfather
Life is too benign
For the mafia gourd
With no one to malign
Conflict is rarely a word
All veggie thoughts are
eerily aligned
‘I blame mankind
The common enemy
Every patch, every field
is intent on destroying
There isn’t a chance now
on heaven on Earth
To reverse these seeds of
distrust
It once was my business’
The pumpkin recalls
Its past glory
With every fruit, seed and leaf
In a quandary
In constant war between
The boundary of truth and lies
That only he, could resolve
Having sown the seeds of resentment
When the carrots fought the figs
The money was there
When the chards sliced the twigs
His wine cellar wasn’t bare
‘Now everyone’s united
No protection needed
From any others
I tried terrorising the grass
But Man poisoned the tree
And beneath it, me’
War against Man continues
Veggie blockades arm in arm
The pumpkin has no visitors
Only windows with views
‘I must work with Him somehow
Information pays
I’ll unveil the strategies, show how
Each melon thrives
Derives mutant strength
From His own pesticides’
