Roses Galore

I passed Jalan Bandar last night to attend my nephew’s birthday celebration at the Maha Mahamariaman temple there.

The traffic was held up by two huge lorries unloading boxes of flowers in particular roses to supply the hawkers at the flower market there.

That’s when I realised the following day was Valentine’s Day, the day roses become the world’s premier commodity.

Chocolates, dinner dates aside it would seem if the man cannot produce even a single rose flower to lighten up his beloved on Valentine’s Day, it will be a blackmark on his sincerity for the whole of the coming year.

Today at night spots filled areas such as Bangsar, Bukit Bintang and other hangouts in Kuala Lumpur, young entrepreneurs will hit crowds selling roses at RM10 a single stalk, if not more.

Whether roses said to be the favoured flower of Venus, the goddess of love, brighten up the hearts of the ladies, the day promises a windfall for those trading in roses

Happy Valentine’s Day to all our readers.
