Annapoorani – Movie An Affront To Sanatana Dharma & Animal Lovers?

It appears so. Reflective of Tamilnadu’s Ruling party DMK’s anti-Sanatana Dharma (Hindu) political propaganda for the coming Federal Elections this year and openly catering to the silent promotion of non-vegetarianism in the State.

Why a self proclaimed animal lover Jatin Sethi teaming up with co-producer R. Ravindran, is investing in a movie glorifying the slaughter of animals to satiate the wild taste buds of rich gluttons is ironic.

Sethi like many other celebrity animal lovers don’t seem to see the fact that many vegetarians have taken their choice of food to prevent killing of animals. Non-vegetarians though being carrion eaters are the cause of wanton animal killing especially the poor chicken which is pumped with hormones and tortured in tightly packed farms and daily slaughtered by the billions worldwide.

There are two incidents of mutilation of chicken in this lame movie that is so wrong in all segments. I wonder why this movie didn’t bother about the Indian movie disclaimer: ‘No animals were killed or harmed in the making of this movie.

Doesn’t a chicken belong to the animal. kingdom? Or is the dressed chicken as city folk would like to believe, just another processed supermarket food item.

Going by the movie premise feeding the rich at five star hotels seems the goal of a goddess of food. It is true that the deluge of cooking shows over TV these days, could have contributed to some children listing becoming a chef among their ambitions.

But a child growing up daily watching her father lovingly cook delectable and fragrant prasadam for thousands of devotees, to relish the pungent smell of roasting fish and as a grown up enjoying the cooking and eating of meat is totally illogical especially since she is supposed to have enhanced taste buds.

Lady Superstar Nayantara, Sathyaraj and sidekick Jai appear so cliched in their roles leaving nothing for the viewers” imagination.

First time director Nilesh Krishnaa’s storyline is also cliched and formula written with loopholes everywhere. The craft of acclaimed director Shankar who plays the role of a restaurant cook has obviously brushed on Nilesh the wrong way.

He has simply jumped on the explosion in popularity of cooking shows in recent years to weave this half baked (pun intended) story. The whole movie just appears to be an attempt to create controversy to fix Nilesh in people’s minds.

All these cheapskate movies are being produced with the General Elections 2024 in mind. Mostly financed by supporters of Congress Party, Communist Party, etc. But I don’t think it would have any political impact. It will actually backfire on the producers, actors and actors. The BJP will flog it very hard. The consecration (kumbhabishegam) of the Shri Rama Temple in Ayodhya to be performed on 22 January has gained so much political mileage in India and abroad, that the anti-Hindu movements are unable to face it. The actors and actresses are only paid employees working for a salary. They will act in any scene, wear any costumes, speak any dialogues, as long as they are paid.
