In Touch With Ponggal Tradition by S. Sugumaran

The traditional Ponggal celebration is an age old harvest celebration which marks the birth of the Tamil month  of Thai. It is a time of feasting and thanksgiving, colour and gaiety. This little girl dressed in the traditional Pavadai (long flowing silk skirt) and Ravukai (silk blouse) entertaining herself while the saree clad women prepare to boil the Ponggal milk rice.
