Supta Padangusthasana 1
(Reclining Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose)

Hello and welcome again to our weekly formal yoga guidance.

Our 2020 programme will be challenging but fruitful. We will be looking deep down into the Yoga philosophy whereby we realise that practicing in moderation is just what our body, mind and beyond needs.

For those who have back stiffness or are troubled by those stubborn tight hamstrings, well this asana will be the remedy.

Lie down flat on the mat.
Exhale –
bend the left knee and hold, locking the big toe using the first three fingers.
The right leg and hand are placed on the mat firmly – palm facing down and right foot facing up.

Inhale – stretch left leg up straight according to your own flexibility. Engage muscles from hamstring, knee and the entire left leg. Hold for 5 counts and exhale to come down.

Repeat on the the other side.

Benefits
Stretches, strengthens and tones hamstrings, calves and lower spine. Also works on abdominal muscles.
