Meesaya Murukku 2 – Moustache Twisted Wrong
Music should be loud, ear shattering and make you jump with joy or dance wildly as opposed to being meditative, invoke inner joy and spirituality. That’s probably what the message of Meesaya Murukku 2 is. Also that Carnatic music is boring and segregationist and its proponents, namely the Brahmins are rigid nerds and anti-folk/ pop music.
I quite like the Hip Hop Tamizha duo of Adhithya (Adhi) Ramachandran Venkatapathy and R. Jeeva and their music mainly because of their indie status apparently free from manipulation by the Tamil cinema megalomania. But Meesaya Murukku 2 written, directed and acted by Athi with music composition by his team, has become a big let off especially because of its caustic Dravida leaning story line.
It is surprising that the anti-brahmin, Marxist and Aryan Invasion theory dogma pushed by the highly corrupt, power hungry and recently ousted Dravidian political parties still grips the Tamilian psyche including of supposedly level headed artistes and intellectuals.
Don’t they know that the major oppression faced by the Tamil masses comes from the Dravidian party leaders especially the family run DMK. The DMK family members own and control the media, television and cinema industry, making it part and parcel of Tamil Nadu politics.
Therefore it is clear that struggling artistes like Gana performers or folk artistes are not up against the Brahmins who through their hard work, dedication, great discipline and bhakti are excelling in South Indian classical music, spreading its fame worldwide.
It is the DMK family movie machinery that has categorically undermined indigenous Tamil folk culture such as Therukoothu (street drama), Villupattu (bow song and story telling), Thappattam (frame drum dance), Karakattam (pot dance), Poikkal Kudirai Attam (horse dance) and the urban Gana song and dance performers, to promote the gutter culture of lucrative cinema, melodrama serials and reality television series.
Indie artists like Athi should know better than to put the blame on the Brahmin Carnatic musicians and discrimination by caste which in fact is a device implemented by the dictatorial British colonial masters to divide and rule the Indian masses. Besides,Tamil pop artistes should appreciate their musical roots and learn to show respect for Carnatic music which is a highly refined, world renowned ancient tradition that can also contribute greatly to their musical development.
Wonder when the Tamil psyche will shed the effects of the Macaulay education system and their Sepoy slave mentality, and learn to appreciate and gain benefit from the vast treasures of their great civilisation.
The storyline of Meesaya Murukku 2 is too scrappy, though the plot linking the enthusiasm in Gana music being carried over three generations is good. All the failures faced by the grandfather and father in realising their dream of achieving stardom are not clearly outlined in the movie. For instance, a recording time slot booked for the grandfather, Das being given to a Carnatic singer by a studio, is not the end of the world. Das’ dramatic statement showing his displeasure in front of the Carnatic musician appears too contrived and politically motivated. Maybe this was meant to resonate with the Tamil masses who have been brainwashed to consider Brahmins as intruders and caste propagators by Dravidian politicians for decades.
At least the third generation artiste, Jiwa finally realises rightly that striving for fame is not the ultimate goal of an artiste, rather he should focus on using his art for the pleasure of others.
If not for the distasteful and rather idiotic Dravidian messages spewed by Adhi from time to time, the movie would have been a highly entertaining outing for the audience as the song sequences were superb.
The closing joke made by Jiwa about the structural parts of a Carnatic music composition namely Pallavi (main refrain) is most distasteful and clearly shows Athi’s arrogance.
When asked what is his song’s Pallavi, Jiwa replies with a forced smile, Pallavi? You mean like actress Sai Pallavi?
I simply can’t understand the level of idiocy of the Dravidian/ Tamil Desiyam types where they feel proud to reject their own rich Indian civilisation and prefer to downgrade themselves to the level of barbarians and savages staying true to the manner they were regarded by their Colonial masters. What a shame to the great heritage ofTamilnadu.
