Vijayadashami Blessings Upon All
The completion of Navarathti (nine nights), is marked with Vijayadashami or Dussehra to celebrate the vanquishing of the buffalo headed Mahishasura by goddess Durga and killing of the 10-headed demon king, Ravana by Lord Ramachandra.
Elaborate festivities in re-enactment of the two respective victories, Mahishasura Mardanam and Rama Vijayam are held.
This most auspicious tithi falling on the 10th day of Ashvin, the seventh month in the Hindu Luni-Solar Calendar is also observed as the perfect to start new lessons, by teachers in all disciplines of study.
